Lufthansa's Basic Round the World Airfare
Lufthansa has long held the title of the cheapest round the world airfare. It is marketed as a lead in fare with some level of flexibility in terms of the route you can take. Lufthansa are starting to introduce in-seat entertainment from April 2009 beginning on their Singapore – Munich leg.
Pricing: from $1627 plus taxes from $577 for 2 stops. Add an Asian stop from $40.
How to Book the Lufthansa Round the World Airfare:
Step 1) Pick Your Route from the below continent and city options.
Step 2) Fill in an enquiry form with your desired order of cities. Please note only internal travel in Europe can be included on this airfare. 1 flight to and 1 flight from Frankfurt/Munich is included (additional taxes apply).

Pros & Cons:
Pros: Usually the cheapest fare on the market. Multiple stopover options in Asia. European side trip can be used into one city and out of another. Can now use Qantas to/from the North America as well as to/from Asia. More seats available than previously. Can now include the East Coast of North America as well as South American destinations.
Cons: No guarantee in-seat entertainment between North America/Asia and Frankfurt on 747 aircraft, where possible we recommend flying via Munich or Dusseldorf on the Airbus aircraft that have been fitted with in-seat TVs. Availability is limited if needing to change dates and it is non-refundable. Must be paid in full within 3 days of booking. Only 3 stopovers permitted, 1 in each direction to your major European stopover. Expensive date change fees of minimum $225 plus fare upgrade to seasonal fare if same price is not available. Except from Sydney and Melbourne additional domestic airfares are needed to get to/from Sydney and Melbourne when going to or coming from North America. If you utilise the Eastern North American route options you must make your way, in one direction, from the West Coast hub cities of LA, San Francisco or Vancouver.
