If you are used to business class we don't suggest that you take premium economy as most airlines only feature the following benefits from a regular economy seat...

- 6-9" additional legroom

- 50% more recline than economy [that's not double, that's 1.5x economy]

- Usually 1-2" additional width, although Virgin Atlantic is 4" wider.

If you're considering it as an upgrade from economy then it's great, as long as the price is right. In our opinion Qantas are overpriced for their premium economy fares, although a upgrade on one leg isn't too bad. Virgin have the best premium economy deal and upgrades on the Star Alliance fare are good value for money.

Air New Zealand = $450 per sector or $550 per sector for the 'spaceseat'. Space seat is available on select flights Auckland - LA - London. Premium economy is available on Auckland - LA/San Fran/Vancouver/Beijing/Hong Kong/Shanghai.

SAS = $550 per sector.

OneWorld Airfare:

Qantas/BA = $900 per sector for medium haul or $1400 per sector for long haul.
