Effective 1 May, OneWorld the airline alliance dominated by Qantas pushed their prices up on their round the world tickets from $2899 to $3199 plus taxes for low season travel. There is now no low season with these airfares. On their popular 4 continent ticket the price went up $200, from $3499 plus taxes to $3699 plus taxes.
Round the worlds are dominated by the big 2 alliances, Oneworld and Star Alliance. As in any duopoly, prices rises are normally matched by the other party. Thus, we believe it's only a matter of time till Star Alliance increase their prices possibly to around $3090 plus taxes.
Furthermore, at the moment we are getting excellent prices using Air NZ on Star Alliance itineraries as they have dropped their fuel surcharges with total prices including of taxes from $3499. Most trips even with internal flights are under $3600.
