Here’s some suggestions on what to do in Helsinki, London, New York and Canada in February.

5 Days in Helsinki
In the heart of Winter, Helsinki can experience temperatures as low as -20c! There’s still plenty to see and do though, this is the real snow capped Finland. The locals say if you visit Finland in Winter, you’re as tough as HEL.

Visit EMMA (Espoo Museum of Modern Art)
Concentrating almost entirely on Finnish art, the collection was started in the 1950’s and consists of more than 2,600 works on permanent display, making it one of the foremost private collection in Finland.

Dine on Finnish Cuisine
Enjoy traditional Finnish fare such as Reindeer at one of Helsinki’s many restaurants such as Kaeppeli, an elegant local favourite set in one of the city parks.

Explore the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress
This UNESCO world heritage site is one of the world’s biggest sea fortresses. Guided tours are available or explore it at your own pace.

Take a hike
An hour bus ride out of Helsinki is the Haltia Nature Centre, a museum filled with exhibitions covering the flora and fauna of Finland. Ask the friendly staff to recommend a nearby hiking trail. Expect to come across other hikers enjoying trailside fires to keep warm.

Tips for London In February

Explore London’s iconic markets
Traditions of market shopping in London goes back centuries. Explore famous markets such as brick Lane Markets, Spitalfields, Portobello road and Leadenhall for food, fashion and antique gems.

Admire The Wallace Collection
The Wallace Collection, so named after Sir Richard Wallace, whose widow bequeathed the collection to the nation, is an enthralling glimpse into 18th century aristocratic life. The collection includes paintings by Rembrandt and is housed in a restored Italianate mansion in the centre of London.

Take a walk along the Canals
Enjoy the picturesque waterside stretch of North London with a walk along the canals that once played a vital part in London’s transportation network. Walk from Little Venice to Camden Town in around hour, you’ll pass Regent’s Park and London Zoo along the way and finish in vibrant Camden.

Enjoy a pint in a funny named pub
It wouldn’t be a proper British experience if you didn’t enjoy a pint in a proper English pub. There’s plenty of them throughout London, you’ll be hard pressed to miss out. Try the Lamb & Flag in Covent Garden, full of charm and history (and people) since 1772.

5 Days in New York

Take a trip back in time at Radio City Music Hall
The famous music venue which dates back to 1932 is full of old world glamour. Catch a show or take a guided tour to see all of the extravagant rooms including the uber exclusive Roxy Suite, where many famous faces of yesteryear have spent wild nights.

Drink in the View at Bar SixtyFive
Located on level 65 of the Rockerfeller Centre, arrive by 5pm for a drink with a view money can’t buy. Soak up the sweeping panorama of the New York Skyline in this classy bar.

Snap up Designer bargains
Head to Century 21 for a giant department store filled with cut price designer goods. Leave any non shoppers at home, designer bargain hunters will want to spend hours perusing the jam packed racks.

Eat your way through Chelsea Market
Formerly a giant biscuit factory, you can now eat your way through the 800 foot long market that is a foodie heaven. Enjoy locally sourced cuisines in eclectic eateries where enormouse ovens once stood.

Vancouver Highlights

Hit the Slopes!
Canada is famous for some of the best ski resorts in the world. There are ski fields within half an hour of Vancouver for those who want a day of skiing, the slopes are open until 10pm providing plenty of time to get some runs in. Alternatively head 2 hours north and you’ll find yourself in internationally renowned Whistler and Blackcomb.

Catch Some Ice Hockey
Get in on the action and take part in the spectacular that is Ice Hockey in Canada. Enjoy hot dogs and poutine as you watch the Vancouver Canucks slide across the ice.

Discover New Wines
Canada has some of the most complicated and obscure wine regulations in the world. The upshot is that British Columbia has stunning wineries that produces wine you are unlikely to have heard of. Little of the wine leaves the province, allowing you to make your own new discoveries. Ensure you try the ice wine, a dessert style wine that is produced from grapes left on the vine long into the freezing winter.

Dine on Vancouver Favourites
With such diverse weather, Vancouver food is very seasonal. In winter expect to find game meats, Pacific Oysters and British Columbia Sea Urchin. You can pick up some fresh sea urchins at the Steveston Fishermen’s Wharf and at Granville Island. If you’d prefer soemone else to prepare your sea urchin, head to Miku restaurant. Head to the Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar to enjoy oysters and cocktails, and to Chambar in downtown Vancouver for traditional comfort food.
