Delta Premium Economy Review

While travelling from Sydney to Los Angeles recently we flew with Delta in their Premium Economy cabin. Right from the priority check-in and boarding, to the dedicated flight staff you feel like you are in one of the premium classes.

The cabin was in a 2-4-2 configuration with a total of 48 seats making for quite an intimate cabin. The wide seats were extremely comfortable plus with the soft pillow and blanket provided made for a relaxing flight. The seat controls were in the armrest and could be accessed easily, the headphone jack and small storage space that could hold personal items were here too. This feeling was elevated with the complimentary Tumi amenity kit filled with everything you could need to make sure you arrive at your destination feeling refreshed, including socks, eyemask, and Malin+Goetz travel essentials.

The generously sized entertainment screen had a huge variety of movies and TV shows including new releases and some classics. Unfortunately the remote extended below the seat cushion so was a bit hard to get out. Behind each seat were two USB and universal power points for charging devices, this position meant you could either stow your device or continue using it while charging.

Unfortunately, due to the make of the seat, there wasn’t much room for storage around the seat. The bag either had to be on the smaller size or go overhead. This also hindered the amount of legroom when the seat was reclined with the leg and footrest out, as it blocked the space where you could stretch out your legs.

During the flight, there were three meal services, the main dinner meal, mid-flight snack and breakfast shortly before landing. Upon boarding the flight we were present with the inflight menus that showed the delicious options and the times of service. With three different options for dinner including meatballs and vegetarian lasagna and two options for breakfast, scrambled eggs or granola. The mid-flight was an egg and cheese croissant, as a nice touch they did not put the lights on for the mid-flight snack to accommodate sleeping passengers. Each meal was served on top of a table cloth with quality Alessi table wear, which felt more like a business class service than premium economy. The only downside was the drinks were served in plastic cups, not glass.

Overall the flight with Delta was very comfortable and the flight staff were helpful and continued to check to see if we needed anything during the flight.  To include Delta as part of a Virgin Round the World trip click here
